We would like the community to know why my wife and I opened up Sports Cuts Barbershop. It all was a buildup of constantly waiting long, countless hours at other barbershops; the barbers would take their own friends and family ahead of my turn. The environment of other shops was so negative, with bad language and loud music. It was a setting not suitable for children or any respectable adult. I would never consider my wife taking our kids to get a haircut because I knew she would not be treated with respect. It was time to raise the bar for barbershops.

The best place to start was to hire only licensed barbers. Making a kid-friendly, family-friendly barbershop was also very important. We want everyone -especially the barbers- to understand our philosophy. We are responsible to provide our community professional barber services in a safe and clean environment. We strive to respect clients the way we would expect to be treated at any other business.

The barbers at Sports Cuts have the skills and experience to work with all hair types and to give you the cut and style you wants. Our guys offer an array of styles, looks, and designs. There's nothing we can't do.

I've been cutting hair for 17 years and have done over 45,000 haircuts in my career as a barber. I am proud of that. I like it when customers give me creative freedom as far as the cut and design. I feel honored to be trusted with their look.

I like it here at Sports Cuts because this barbershop stands out above the other shops. It's comfortable for me and the customers feel right at home. We get all kinds of people and hair types here so I've also learn a lot about all kinds of subjects while talking to the customers. I figure I'm learning from them as I do my job.

I received my official Barber's License about 10 years ago but I have been passionate about barbering since I was 14 years old. That's over 30 years. I started fading my friend's hair in their basements at 14. I learned to cut with a razor and comb before I ever picked up a clipper. I believe I was a barber back then –in my heart. I always wanted to make people look better. I love this job. It's my passion.

I love the talkative customers that come in here because I talk a lot too. I like a person to be open to talk about random life ideas, anything but politics and religion although that sneaks in too sometimes. I mostly like the customer not to be so quiet or serious in the seat. The environment at Sports Cuts is homey and comfortable so I want them to feel relaxed and talk about whatever.

I actually like to do kids' haircuts. They usually don't want to get a haircut and might have an attitude at first. So I talk and tease them enough to make them feel comfortable and then it's not so bad for them. They might not give mom such a hard time the next time they are due for a cut.

I like crazy, off-the-wall cuts like Asymmetrical cuts. Getting a customer's permission to get crazy with a style is my time to show what I can do.

I love when a customer likes to talk controversial sports. It is the best way to make a barbershop feel like the man's place. We just argue our opinion on sports and numbers and all that. It's just clean fighting. I also love it when a kid learns loyalty to his barber at a young age, like when a kid comes and would rather wait for me than go to one of the other barbers. That inspires me to give him my best because he picked me to make him look good.

I like the diversity at Sports Cuts. All different types of people come in all day long and they all have different types of hair and want different types of cuts for their individual preference. It keeps us on our toes to have to adjust to all hair types and styles all day. I like when someone is open to suggestions. I like to look at the individual and suggest what might look nicer or be a nice change for them.

I'm always looking to improve and grow. I hope to keep learning no matter how long I'll be doing this. "Setting Goals is a good way to measure progress."
